One of these big celebrations is Wet Dreams, taking over the Fleet Steps at Mrs Macquarie’s Point. It’ll bring an array of performers and DJs including acclaimed British singer-songwriter and producer Aluna, global icon and Spice Girl Melanie C (DJ set), American rapper Cakes Da Killa, Nigerian singer-songwriter Kah-Lo and UK future r&b DJ Jamz Supernova.
It’ll all be set against the stunning backdrop of Sydney Harbour, and in quintessential Heaps Gay fashion, audiences can expect a sweaty, colourful dancefloor, soundtracked by a masterfully curated selection of local favourites. There’s drag queen Felicia Foxx, renowned vibe maker DJ Charlie Villas, dancefloor mainstay Jacqui Cunningham, and visual by Byron Spencer.
Heaps Gay started at the old Gladstone Hotel in Chippendale in 2013. It was a time before lockouts, COVID lockdowns, and marriage equality. It began as a safe sanctuary for queer people and allies to dance together and enjoy art.
To honour the remarkable ten-year history of Heaps Gay, the festivities kick off with the Heaps Gay Street Party as part of Marrickville Block Weekender, with party vibes from the likes of Big Wett, VVPete and Tseba. To close things out will be the Powerhouse Up Late free party, with music, film, and performances.
Wet Dreams takes place at the Fleet Steps at Mrs Macquarie’s Point (Sydney) on 19 November.
Tickets are on sale 5 October at 6pm AEDT.
