Attending the BMI Pop Awards in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Teddy, 29, was honoured for her co-writing efforts on 'Mercy' and 'There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back' by global superstar Shawn Mendes.

Teddy revealed she had begun transitioning (male to female) in October of last year.

"Okay … because u asked nicely … I am transitioning," she said, replying to a comment on her Instagram questioning her change in appearance.

"I started talking about it with a couple of my close friends and family about a month ago and it’s given me the courage to start the process. I feel like the next step is to tell all y’all. So here goes. Love it or hate this is who I have been for a looooong time.”

She's been updating fans on social media frequently since then. In November she began hormone therapy.

Teddy shot to fame with her hit 'For You I Will (Confidence)' in 2006, more recently turning her attention to writing for the likes of Shawn Mendes and Maroon 5.
