The festival promises a kaleidoscope of LGBTQIA+ stories, showcasing both Australian and Sydney premieres from across the globe. They’ll be screening at Event Cinemas George Street, Dendy Cinemas Newtown, Ritz Cinemas Randwick as well as other exciting venues to be announced.
Today, film lovers get a sneak preview of the festival’s 2024 offering, with six films revealed (of the 100+ to make up the programme).
“We are thrilled to be announcing six of the over 100 films that will make up our 31st Mardi Gras Film Festival”, Festival Director Lisa Rose explains. “It’s such a wonderful time for queer film, with a plethora of unique and interesting stories being told about the LGBTIQ+ experience both real and imagined. I can’t wait for audiences to see what is on offer.”
'Aristotle And Dante Discover The Secrets Of The Universe'
First up is the Sydney Premiere of ‘Aristotle And Dante Discover The Secrets Of The Universe’. It’s based on Benjamin Alire Saenz’s critically-acclaimed young adult novel and is a story of friendship and self-discovery.
Then it’s the winner of the Teddy Award for best queer film at Berlinale, ‘All The Colours Of The World Are Between Black And White’. It’s a love story of two men exploring the streets of Lagos, Nigeria. Plus, fans of ‘Pose’ and ‘Transparent’ will recognised transgender actress Trace Lysette, starring alongside Patricia Clarkson in the Australian Premiere of ‘Monica’, an intimate and complex exploration of family and forgiveness.
Fashion enthusiasts need not look further than the Sydney Premiere of ‘Happy Clothes: A Film About Patricia Field’, offering a fascinating glimpse into the remarkable life and fascinating process of stylist Patricia Field who is behind ‘The Devil Wears Prada’’s cerulean sweater and Carrie Bradshaw’s tutu.
