Included in the festival are 5 feature films and 50 short films, showcasing the very best of international queer cinema, with proceeds going to Pride WA.
Artistic Director Mark Reid wanted to make sure the PRIDE Queer Film Festival was filled with thought-provoking, emotional, funny and captivating work: “I didn’t want
o put films in the festival that were ‘happy-ever-after-films’.” he says. “These films from all over the world need to push the boundaries, show the depth of filmmaking and have a strong queer narrative that show the lived experience that is still happening out there.”
Each night of the festival will feature a range of short films from around the world, adding depth and experience to the programme and expanding the narrative of queer experiences.
Flying into Perth for the world premiere of opening night film 'Spencer', the star, co-author and producer Adam Noviello will host a Q&A with the audience after the screening, talking about the production of the film and the importance of diverse cinema.
'Spencer' will be complemented by Australian shorts 'Tribunal' and 'YES!'.
With a strong collection of shorts submitted in 2020, it was a difficult choice to shortlist. This year there will be four short film sessions, featuring some of the best short queer films from around the world including the USA, Canada, the UK, Netherlands, France, Mexico, Russian Federation, China, Czech Republic, Italy, Brazil and Turkey. All of the feature films will have their premiere in Perth.
“The rich depth of films that were submitted for inclusion this year were incredible and made the job of putting the festival programme together really hard,” Mark says. “I wanted to make sure that we were able to give representation to different queer narratives and stories.”
A record number of Australian shorts were submitted this year, which means there's a screening exclusively featuring Australian short films!
