5 Drag Kings You'll Meet During Dragspeare At Metro Arts In Brisbane

Passion. Bravado. Bulging biceps and a smouldering stare.

'Dragspeare'

But what if you want to be seen as more than just those devilish looks? What if you’ve got a creative zest and rigour you want others to see?

For the quintet of drag kings known as The Stallion Squad, this is a very real concern and one which forms the premise of 'Dragspeare', the bold cabaret detailing their rock ‘n roll tour through regional Queensland.

Directed by Bridget Boyle and created by Jo Loth and Anne Pensalfini, it’s an adventure that blends poetry, iconic rock anthems, and the art of male drag performance into a rambunctious, hilarious, and unexpectedly moving mission to prove a king can be more than burning hot passion and sex appeal.

So who are these Shakespeare-channeling Kings making their way to Metro Arts in Brisbane, this June?

One

Pan Tastical (he/they), the Squad’s fearless leader. Pan Tastical has lived through more lifetimes than anyone can count – but don’t waste your time on the maths when there is art to be done. A deity of wisdom, Pan allegedly designed the Trojan Horse, sat at Plato’s table, and puppeteered the Bacchae as they danced in débauchery. After centuries of guiding empires, coaching glam rockers, masterminding waves of sexual revolution and dabbling in every art form known to humanity, Pan has settled into their latest role as the sage of The Stallion Squad, applying acquired omniscience to keep the Kings on course. While Pan’s methods may be mysterious, his grin is mischievous, his story is polyamorous, and his insights are on point and forever fuelled with love.

Two

Biron Bothways (he/him). Biron Bothways is drag’s answer to existential longing, but with better hair. Originally from California, Biron travelled to Australia with a couple he fell for during COVID. When the romance ended and they drove off with the van, Biron found himself stranded – and discovered The Stallion Squad. A true wanderer, Biron has cycled through everything from studying Mahayana Buddhism and creating mandalas from beach debris to crafting organic wine (he likes the wine not the label). He once toured with the fusion Appalachian folk and hot club swing band A Considerable Wind, playing the hammer dulcimer. ‘Round about seven months into any passion, Biron gets the itch to move on.

Three

Swingin’ Dick (he/him). Swingin’ is the captivating charmer of The Stallion Squad. He’s a cruise-ship crooner and a favourite of the ladies who can’t get enough of his smooth, smooth jazz. His debut album 'A Scat Supreme' was a huge hit on the Australian regional jazz charts. Swingin’ has toured extensively on cruises up and down the Queensland coast. Not just a charming face, Swingin’ has also taught High School English and Drama. Swingin’ is passionate about the power of crooning to change the world.

Four

Rocky V Liquor (he/him). Roccioso Valentino Limoncello Liquore (Rocky V Liquor) was born and raised in his Uncle Tony’s classic car garage. Rocky grew up with a spanner in one hand and comb in the other, always ready to fix an engine or his hair. With his greased-back locks and leather jacket, Rocky brings a rough-edged heart to The Stallion Squad, embodying the swagger of an Italian stallion and the vulnerability of a true romantic. He’ll tell you he’s got the biggest personality in the Squad, and whether he’s serenading the crowd or delivering a smouldering glare, Rocky leaves no doubt he’s got the goods. Underneath all that bravado, though, is a King who just wants to be seen for more than his muscles and hip thrusts. Rocky loves to watch Elvis and currently lives with his Nonna Lucia. In drag years Rocky is considered ancient having been born on the stage over ten years ago for the Melony Brests drag queen cabaret 'Fabulousity' who currently tour regularly around Queensland and Australia.

Five

York Lit (he/they). The cheeky heartthrob of The Stallion Squad, York Lit is all about flexing – whether it’s their muscles, sexuality, gender, or irresistible charm. A country lad at heart, York feels the call of the farm deep in their soul, especially after the high-octane energy of performing with The Squad. They’re always ready to turn up the heat on stage, and after the show, York is more than happy to give a little extra attention to their adoring fans. Equal parts playful and magnetic, York lights up every room with that trademark grin and boundless energy.
