Community members are encouraged to cast their votes for the Queens Ball Awards online, recognising the individuals and organisations who have made outstanding contributions to Queensland’s LGBTQIA+ communities over the past year. The 2026 event will be hosted by beloved Brisbane drag icon Chocolate Boxx, alongside Paul Wheeler, promising an evening of glamour, celebration, and community spirit, at Brisbane City Hall.
“The Queens Ball is more than just a celebration — it’s a powerful expression of our community’s history, resilience and pride,” Brisbane Pride President James McCarthy says. “For nearly 65 years, this event has recognised the incredible people and organisations who strengthen and uplift our communities, while also creating a space where everyone can come together in joy and solidarity.”
Anticipation is building and limited tickets also remain for the Queens Ball, with the theme ’United Colours Of Pride’, speaking to the strength that we find when LGBTQIA+ community members stand together.

The 2026 Ball holds particular significance, paying tribute to the founder and long-time organiser of the event, Dame Sybil Von Thorndyke.
“As we gather this year, we will honour the extraordinary legacy of Dame Sybil, whose vision and dedication created what is now believed to be the longest continuously running LGBTQIA+ event in the world,” James says. “Her contribution to our communities is immeasurable, and the 2026 Queens Ball will be a fitting tribute to her life, her work, and the enduring impact she has had on generations of Queenslanders.”
