Watch: Darren Hayes’ New Music Video ‘Do You Remember?’

After headlining the Sydney Gay And Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade and announcing 2023 tour dates, award-winning songwriter and performer Darren Hayes shares the video for his new single ‘Do You Remember?’.

The video (co-directed and written by Darren with co-director/co-star Madeleine Coghlan) shows a continuation of the fictional ‘80s world he’s created for this new era. There’s comedy hijinks, choreography, and a post-credits gag reel.

Darren continues to present a peach-tinted version of his past – a re-imagining of his actual life – with ‘Do You Remember?’. The song was written/recorded in LA and is another example of his re-energised talents as a solo songwriter, arranger and producer.

Lyrically, it’s a re-telling of Darren’s first gay kiss – a topic tackled in the Savage Garden track ‘Chained To You’. Well, how, Hayes 2.0 is able to revisit this moment, and present it through a much more queer lens.

“I’m really enjoying having no commercial constraints this time ‘round,” Darren says. “I know that’s not a smart thing to say at a time when songs are two minutes long, but there’s something so liberating about hitting the record button and not looking up until after the six minute mark and realising that I now get to direct these little short films and pick out every single aspect of the way I present myself to the world.

“After so many years of being placed in a neat and tidy package, it’s nice to remember why I got into this business in the first place: to be an artist. Okay, and to be a pop star!”

‘Do You Remember?’ Is out now.
