Tomboi Records Launches To Represent The Women, LGBTQIA+ Community And People Of Colour In Music

This Pride Month, the Australian music industry is getting a welcome addition as Tomboi Records launches.

Tomboi's roster of artists at launch

The record label fills a huge gap for an underrepresented group of artists – the emerging and established women, LGBTQIA+ people, and people of colour, in music.

The launch introduces six artists and is one of the first of its kind in the world – its mission? To be a safe label for all people signed and working with them.

Tomboi Founder and CEO Alexis Benedict is seasoned in the music industry, and has 25 years of experience in self-management, production, performance, writing and recording.

“We are here to start a new safe space in the music industry and shake it up a little! We are the first record label in the world created to be specifically a safe label for women, LGBTQIA+ and POC in music and beyond and we are so excited to bring incredible artists to light and let them shine the best way we know how,” Alexis says.

“Our hope is that other teams can adopt this approach that we do and see that there is a gap in the industry and it is a must for real change and to genuinely create inclusive elements to the music industry.”

Tim Youngson (A&R/ Label Development/ International Relations) and Lee Groves (Executive Producer) join Alexis in this endeavour, as Tomboi joins forces with Ingrooves Music Group.

Tomboi’s launching roster is made up of the likes of queer black electro-pop/alt artist Lion, emotive alt-pop act Joan & The Giants, LGBTQIA+ duo Forces & Fury, Greg Gould, visual artist and art/pop electronic female act Parker, and Tomboi’s own alt-pop artist Benedict.

These six acts will perform at an artist showcase at The Toff In Town (Melbourne) on 30 June, and The Great Club (Sydney) on 14 July.
