Peach interweaves vulnerable lyrics, rhythmic storytelling, and glorious self-discovery through every song – building on her signature bubblegum pop and expanding both as a creative and music producer.
“Being hands-on with this album was so cool, and so fun. I really wanted to lean into a botanica sort of vibe, but I didn’t really have a genre in mind. I never really do, but they all come out sounding like bubblegum pop because that’s what I like, so I think I’ve sort of evolved from that and branched out with some co-producing.”
Two years in the making, this album is Peach PRC’s first after securing more than 230 million streams across platforms. Known for 'Josh', 'God Is A Freak', and 'Perfect For You' among so many others, Peach returns to the forest for this heartfelt, insightful, and methodically crafted daisy chain of music. The album unfolds like a Russian Doll, the further you delve into Peach’s story, the more intricacies and surprises you find.
“I had success and wanted to keep it. . . I’ve got to really lock in now, and I’ve got to make sure I do everything right, be perfect, and be entertaining – and all these things really muddy things up when you’re trying to be creative,” Peach reflects on her early rise in music.
“I got to a place where I let all that go, then felt really stripped of my identity. I just had to fully disconnect and go within, and I spent a year sort of inside myself. I just changed as a person, and rediscovered who I am, and it’s still in line with what I’ve always been, but it’s just now a different evolution.”
'Porcelain' is a cinematic orchestra, leading the listener down a narrative of self-discovery, reconnection with nature, and love. The album starts off strong with 'Piper', a beautiful track co-produced by Peach, and in collaboration with her partner. The recent release of 'Eucalyptus' continues the petal core storyline, long into other tracks like 'Oasis', 'Out Loud', and 'Hold It For Her'. Fans will be swept away with the bubblegum pop Peach PRC is known for, but lulled into the pixie outback daydream her album explores.
'Shirley Barber' came from left field, a fun exploration in style and musicality from Peach. Inspired by her love for fairies, and named after the late British author and illustrator, the song explores Peach’s distinctive storytelling voice and a separation from lived experiences – featured strongly in 'The Palace' with the lyrics “… dad says he hates my guts, but this club thinks I’m worth about 80 bucks”.
Besides rhythmic earworms, Peach embodies emotion in every element of the album, in a way that is true heart-mending lo-fi, allowing for listening at any point of your day, or journey.
Amid various inspirations both as an individual and an artist, Peach PRC reflects on the poetical works of Eliza Cook, “She was a queer woman, a Victorian, masculine lesbian – and she is so interesting, and fascinating with the way she writes, I’ve been getting a lot of inspiration from her lately.”
When asked what advice she would give to any writer, or budding musician, Peach says, “Find whatever is so uniquely you. . . So obviously you, and really enhance it – lean into it. Be your own inspiration, I think if you really look at your own life as the inspiration, and what things may be boring, someone else might look at and find fascination.”
“I’m excited for fans to hear 'Eucalyptus', and 'Piper' – my girlfriend and I wrote that one in my bedroom, on the laptop. The lyrics were inspired by a fairy oracle card because we didn’t know what we wanted the song to be about – so I’m really excited for that one!”
The 'Wandering Spirit' tour is here, and will feature songs from the album. It's the perfect way to experience Peach PRC in person, for a performance that will no doubt feel profound, and trance-like.
Peach PRC’s ‘Porcelain’ is out on 3 April.
