Darcy Fox Brings Queer Joy To Christmas With 'She Loves Christmas Time'

Well, it's happening! Mariah Carey and Michael Buble have defrosted, the shopping centre Christmas decorations have broken out (is it just us, or do they go up earlier every year?!) and Christmas music is hitting the airwaves.

If you aren't in the spirit yet, a touch of festivity from singer-songwriter Darcy Fox may just do the trick. Darcy's new single 'She Loves Christmas Time' is essential holiday listening. After all, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of Christmas songs. . . But only a few of them feature LGBTQIA+ storylines. Darcy's here to contribute to the change, by sharing her authentic stories and aiming to provide hope for her community.

'She Loves Christmas Time' is written about Darcy's own fiancee.

“She’s been singing since November / She bought her presents back in June / She’s making this one to remember / It’s not just December / And it’s going by too soon”

While there's no distinctly Christmas-y (jingle bells, for example) elements sonically, it's still a subtly festive track in its lyrics and its overall vibe. Darcy has written about heartbreak from every angle. . . And this track is a departure thematically.

“Too many queer stories in the media are tragic. Including most of my own!” Darcy says.

“Holidays can be hard enough for our community – particularly if you have a complex family dynamic. I wanted to show that a happy ending is possible.”

Darcy says she never expected to add a Christmas song to her repertoire, but after meeting her fiancee, she says it was inevitable.

“She adores Christmas, and I love anything that makes her that happy. I know that from 1 November, the living room will be taken over by lights, baubles and stars.”

'She Loves Christmas Time' is out now.
