Renovations have begun today (8 August) and are due to be completed by the end of the year.

The Wickham was established in 1885, and has grown with the ever-changing Fortitude Valley in the heart of Brisbane’s nightlife precinct. It’s best-known for its annual street party Big Gay Day, which has been running for 22 years.

This renovation will transform the ground floor bar, beer garden, and second floor. It will modernise the spaces, with dedicated zones designed for socialising, casual dining, group gathering and events, and dancing.

The re-opening will be celebrated via a major entertainment programme, and The Wickham will continue to offer popular weekly events like trivia, drag bingo, and guest DJs.

Plus, there’ll be a new menu from Executive Chef Dylan Kemp, filled with wood fired pizzas, fresh bar snacks, and late-night bites, with ample vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options.

“The Wickham is a Fortitude Valley icon,” Chief Operating Offering Craig Ellison says. “We want to make The Wickham the best version of itself, and offer Brisbane’s LGBTQIA+ community the best experience every time they visit.”

The Wickham is slated to re-open in late 2022.
